Prymface

I read with interest your blog and was keen to get in touch, in hope that you might be able to help me.

I am currently working on a new development project for MTV about Teenage pregnancy and I am looking for first time mums to be to take part.

MTV is looking to film an observational documentary series that takes viewers into the intense, challenging, exhausting and wonderful world of pregnancy.

We are looking for young mums to be who are about to face the single biggest event of their lives- giving birth to a baby. We want to capture on film the highs and lows of impending motherhood. From the very practical- Pre natal classes, scans and budgeting to the fun and emotional, like choosing baby names, decorating the nursery and baby showers.

This is an extraordinary time for any young teenager and we want to be there along the way. We’ll witness the tears and tantrums, and the laughter and love as our mums to be get to grips with the biggest challenge life could throw at them: having a kid when you’re not done growing up yourself.

We are looking for young girls who will be honest and open about what it’s like being a teenager and pregnant for the first time. This series will capture those special moments throughout their pregnancy as well as the inevitable responsibilities which comes with motherhood.

I was wondering whether it would be possible to have a further chat over the phone to discuss further. Perhaps you know some young people who you could approach on our behalf? Alternatively, I could give you a call if you forward me your number.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards

MTV

Dear MTV,
Thanks for contacting me. Before I respond, could you please just provide a explanation of the reasons for doing this programme?

Hi Prymface,

Many thanks for your reply. As mentioned, I am currently working on a development project for MTV which we are planning to start filming in January. We are looking for young  girls to document their pregnancy and the highs and lows they will face as motherhood looms. We are looking for warm characters, who have completely different stories and situations who will all be instantly identifiable with the MTV audience.

We want the viewers to go on a journey with these characters- through the laughter, tears, fun and emotion.

We are looking for teenagers with great personalities who will be honest and open about what it’s like being pregnant for the first time.  This will be a momentous occasion for them and they will have a record of this that they can keep forever.

It would be great if we could have a chat to discuss how you could possibly help with our search.

I hope to hear from you soon.

 Best Regards,

MTV

Sorry, I meant was there a reason behind the idea for the show? e.g. challenging stereotypes, letting young parents tell their own story, warning other teens of the difficulties etc? Or is it simply entertainment/way to boost ratings?

Also, out of interest, would the participants be paid and how much?

Prymface

Hi Prymface

Many thanks for your email- yes to all of those questions- we are looking for this programme to challenge stereotypes and give a young mum a voice!

Would it be possibly to have your number to chat further. I am in the office now so could give you a call if you are free?

Thanks

MTV

Dear MTV,
Sorry, I would only be interested in promoting this to young mums if they had full ownership over their story, and how it was filmed and edited. I have seen too many examples of young mums exploited/misrepresented for the sake of 'ratings' or entertainment.
Thanks anyway,
Prymface
