OPERATION DONT FORCE YOUNG PARENTS TO LEAVE THEIR NEW BABIES FULL TIME!

Ok, its a mouthful I know - but stick with me here.

The DfE have launched a consultation, in view of raising the participation age to 17 in 2013 and 18 in 2015, where they are asking what should constitute 'full time'. The fact that Care to Learn will remain available up to age 20 (see previous blog post) means that there is potential for much more flexibility in further education provision for young parents. Prymface Recommendations for Care to Learn Consultation

The following recommendations should be considered to ensure that young parents are able to progress in education and employment.

1.    As well as covering all parents under 19, guaranteed childcare payments should remain for young parents who start a course when they are 19 – particularly for those without a level 3 qualification, looking to improve on their current qualification level or have had their education disrupted due to pregnancy or becoming a parent.
